Eight shipping companies have signed deals to install shipboard power banks produced by two local companies onto more than 100 ships in their fleets.

The Qinhe 1038 ship was the first batch to carry out trials on this equipment last January, which had been jointly developed by Changxia Green Ship (Yichang) Energy Technology Co., Ltd. and Hubei Zitong Energy Technology Co., Ltd. This ship power bank can be inserted with replaceable and shared ship power battery packs.

“The new generation of ship power banks can adapt to various complex environments and power demands while maintaining low maintenance costs," said Jiang Hua, head of Yichang Qinhe Shipping Co., Ltd.

The equipment consists of eight battery packs with a total capacity of 200 kWh. It can meet domestic power needs of a single vessel for five to seven days, not including the power to propel the ship.

The ship power bank is expected to significantly reduce ship operating costs and decrease exhaust emissions.

Over the past 17 months of testing, the Shengtong 78 and Qinhe 1038 trial vessels have obtained over 37,000 kWh of electricity through the new equipment, reducing over 27 tons of exhaust emissions.
