A new berth at Zigui Port began operating on July 20, facilitating the movement of more heavy trucks across the Three Gorges Dam.
Zigui Port's Maoping Phase II Ro-Ro Berth is located approximately 8 kilometers from the dam and features five 3,000-tonne berths. Ro-Ro transport utilizes roll-on/roll-off ships to transport loaded vehicles and cargo by waterway. This method is more efficient, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective compared to traditional road transportation and shipping.
An opening ceremony was held at Zigui Port for Maoping Phase II Truck Ro-ro Berth.
Of the five new berths, No.1 is designated for truck ro-ro operations, while No.2 is for commercial vehicles.
The truck ro-ro berths have an annual capacity of 208,000 units. The ro-ro operations area is equipped with an electronic weighbridge, a charging and invoicing hall, a driver's rest and dining room, and a large car park capable of accommodating over 500 trucks.
The Maoping Phase II of Zigui Port will offer three routes: Yichang - Zhongxian, Yichang - Wanzhou, and Yichang - Chongqing.
Between January and June of this year, Three Gorges' truck ro-ro transport has already transferred 104,100 trucks.
