Abidjan, July 10 -- Ivory Coast celebrated a major milestone on Wednesday with the launch of its first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project.

Côte d'Ivoire’s Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé launched construction work on the Yopougon-Bingerville BRT line on July 10, 2024, in Abidjan.

China Gezhouba Group is spearheading the Yopougon-Bingerville line, which was inaugurated with a groundbreaking ceremoy attended by Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé. This BRT line, the first of its kind in Ivory Coast, spans 20 kilometers between Yopougon and Bingerville and required an investment of 242 billion FCFA (US$401 million). It will feature over 100 articulated buses and 21 modern stations.

The project aims to significantly enhance regional transportation, improve urban functionality, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and stimulate local economic growth and employment.
