Changyang Tujia Autonomous County in China is gaining recognition as the "Hometown of Konjac." This versatile, low-calorie food, often referred to as a "superfood," is becoming increasingly popular worldwide due to its potential health benefits.

Konjac is known for its ability to lower blood sugar, reduce lipids, aid digestion, and even be used in detox and beauty treatments.

To strengthen the konjac industry, Changyang County has implemented a comprehensive development plan. By introducing and cultivating new disease-resistant varieties, the county has successfully reduced the disease rate in large-scale konjac plantations from 30%-100% to less than 10%.

The success of the konjac industry is exemplified by Yizhi Konjac, a prominent konjac processor and trader based in Changyang. The company offers over 300 konjac products, including food items, konjac gum, and konjac sponges, which are exported to more than 40 countries and regions.

Yizhi Konjac was listed on the Beijing Stock Exchange in 2023.

With over 3,300 hectares of konjac plantations and an annual production exceeding 60,000 tonnes of fresh konjac, the county generates a comprehensive output value of over 3 billion yuan (US$400 million) within the konjac industry.
