Yichang kicks off Zhongkao with heartwarming atmosphere

On June 20, Yichang kicked off its 2024 Senior High School Entrance Examination. Commonly known as "zhongkao" (中考), the score from this exam will determine which high school a student can enter, where he/she will prepare for the college entrance exam three years later.
Before entering the exam center at No. 16 Middle School, students were surrounded by a warm and ceremonious atmosphere.
The students were welcomed with a red carpet and high-hanging rice dumplings, inviting them to jump and touch them upon entry. These rice dumplings, called "Gao Zong" (高粽), symbolize best wishes for the students' success in the exams, as its pronunciation is similar to “achieving high scores” and "being admitted into good schools” in Chinese.
