Zhijiang plays an important role in the construction of new energy ships in Hubei

Recently, several 10,000-tonne galleons and eight methanol dual-fuel multipurpose vessels are under construction in Yichang’s shipbuilding Industrial Zone. Four 5,000-tonne standard bulk carriers have been launched in the Yangtze River.

On January 18 this year, the Yichang New Energy Ship Base project was opened in Yichang’s shipbuilding Industrial Zone located in Zhijiang, with a total planned investment of 2 billion yuan (US$ 276 million) and a land area of 260 mu (17.33 hectares).



The main goals of the project include the construction of a new energy intelligent segment construction workshop, intelligent spraying workshop and the existing shipbuilding factory intelligent transformation, outfitting wharf construction and rear comprehensive security base expansion, etc., to create new energy ships.

Yichang’s shipbuilding Industrial Zone in Zhijiang has gathered nine shipbuilding enterprises to build the largest new energy shipbuilding base in Hubei Province.

Zhijiang's shipbuilding volume accounts for one-third of Hubei province, and new energy shipbuilding volume accounts for one-half of the province. The annual output value of its ship industry is nearly 6 billion yuan.

This year, there are 38 ships under construction in the park, mainly barges and bulk carriers, of which 41% are new energy ships. In addition, there are 104 orders this year, including 16 foreign trade orders.
