The Yangtze River Biodiversity Research Center recently launched the 2024 Yangtze sturgeon breeding program. Sixty female Yangtze sturgeon have already spawned over 1.1 million fry, setting a new record. All fry are monitored and appear to be growing well.
Also known as the Dabry's sturgeon, the Yangtze sturgeon is named after its habitat, the Yangtze River. It was classified as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2010.

The center, which is wholly owned by the China Three Gorges Corporation, has been committed to protecting this rare fish and has taken the lead in forming a comprehensive system for artificial breeding.
The center released over 670,000 Yangtze sturgeons last year, making a great stride toward recovering the population of this endangered species.
