A 39-year-old Yichang native donated his hematopoietic stem cells on Monday to save a leukemia patient in East China.
The donor's father died from the disease 13 years ago, and his mother was killed in an accident two years later. "I understand the pain of losing loved ones, so I want to help others," said the donor.
He joined the China Marrow Donor Program in 2013 and was informed in February of a match for his stem cells. Without hesitation, he agreed to proceed.

He modified his lifestyle in preparation. After undergoing a series of physical tests, he made the donation at Yichang Three Gorges Central People's Hospital on May 13. The transplant took place later that same day.
