Baiyang Port is operated by Yichang Port Group, together with the other five ports, namely, Zhicheng Port, Yunchi Port, Yidu Port, Zigui Port, and the under-construction Badong Port.

Serving as Yichang's main water transportation channel for foreign trade, Baiyang Port offers three routes to Wuhan, Shanghai, and Chongqing. From there, goods are transported by train or sea container ships to their final destinations. Exported products include chemicals, medical supplies, foodstuffs, and building materials.

By May 9, Baiyang Port had exported 4,249 TEUs of fertilizer, a 54.62 percent increase compared to the previous year. Fertilizer exports accounted for 31.36 percent of the port's total cargo exports.

Yichang's ports have an annual capacity to handle over 30 million tons of goods and 700,000 TEUs of containers.
