On May 7, the river-sea direct transport ship named "Innovation 5" successfully navigated through the Three Gorges Dam ship lock, becoming the first 10,000-ton class vessel to have sailed directly from the sea to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Innovation 5, measuring 130 meters in length, 16.2 meters in width, and 8.5 meters in depth with a cargo capacity of 9,485 tons, set sail from the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan on April 24 and traveled up the Yangtze River to its destination of Chongqing.

During the four-hour passage through the five-tier ship locks of the Three Gorges Dam, located in Yichang City, Innovation 5 rose 113 meters and entered into the upper Yangtze River.

Constructed in Hubei in 2023, Innovation 5 was designed and built to solve the long-standing problem of 14,000-DWT river-sea direct transport ships being unable to sail to the upper reaches of the Yangtze River due to their inability to meet the Three Gorges lock's 4.3-meter draft requirement.

The establishment of the Zhoushan-Chongqing river-sea direct shipping route that opened alongside this ship will significantly reduce logistics transportation time and costs, further strengthening economic ties between the eastern coastal regions and the upper reaches of the Yangtze River.
