Dangyang-Yuan'an freight train line begins final tests

A new freight transportation railway line began final testing on April 25. The new railway will be a key component in moving phosphate deposits and other commodities in northwest Hubei Province.
The Dangyang-Yuan'an freight train line will be ready for traffic in May, said Chen Guohai, a staff member of the project office. The volume of cargo transported by a single train will be about 3,200 tons, and the volume of freight is expected to reach about 8 million tons annually.
The 60-kilometer railway, which connects Dangyang City with Yuan'an County, will be used to transport phosphate deposits across northwest Hubei Province. The line is the first of its kind to pass through Yuan'an County, with a length of 47 kilometers in the county. It passes through five towns in Yuan'an and one in Dangyang.
Hubei is a major production base of phosphate compound fertilizer. The proven reserves of phosphate deposits in Leizu Town, Yuan'an County, total nearly 1.9 billion tons, accounting for 7.8 percent of the country's total and about 23.4 percent of the province.
Each year, about 10 million tons of phosphate deposits and other commodities are transported in the regions of Dangyang, Yuan’an and Baokang County of Xiangyang City by trucks and water transport, with high costs and high traffic safety risks.
When the line is completed, it will be connected to the Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Railway. In the future, cargo from all three areas can be transported by trucks in a short distance, transferred to the Dangyang-Yuan'an freight line, and arrive at Yichang’s Yunchi Port and Yaojia Port via the Jiaozuo-Liuzhou Railway and Ziyun Railway.
The cargo can be transferred to various chemical parks or transported to other places via the Yangtze River. Compared with road transportation, the railway is faster and has a larger transport capacity.
As a supporting project, the Hubei Railway Group Phosphorus Resources Supply Chain Logistics Industrial Park will be built and put into operation in two years. The project will provide centralized storage, phosphate deposits processing, and green and low-carbon transportation to promote the upgrading of the phosphate deposits industry.
At the same time, Hubei Railway Group has planned the second phase of the Dangyang-Yuan'an freight line to extend the line to Nanzhang County, Xiangyang City.
