First electric catamaran harbor vessel on Yangtze River makes debut

The first pure electric catamaran harbor craft Dian Du Lu Dong 1 embarked on its maiden voyage from the Yichang section of the Yangtze River on Monday. This was the first time a fully electric harbor craft has been used on the Yangtze River.
The ship will be used to transport supplies to vessels carrying hazardous chemicals waiting to pass through the Gezhouba Dam locks.
This new development is a major step in increasing the amount of green transport on the Yangtze River.

The ship features a 105 meter long steel structure that is 16.2 meters wide and 5.3 meter deep. Powered by batteries with a storage capacity of 430 kWh, the ship can sail up to 72 kilometers on a single charge.
The ships construction began in July of 2023 and was invested in by Hubei Xiangbo Intelligent Shipping Co., Ltd. The hull was built by Zigui Huaxing Shipping, and the electric control system was independently developed by Hubei Xiangbo Intelligent Shipping and Yichang Feiya Electromechanical Co., Ltd.

Compared to traditional fuel-powered ships, the new vessel will cut the usage of fuel oil by 40 tons annually, which translates into a yearly reduction of 125 tons in harmful gas emissions.
