Construction of ten 5,000-ton new energy bulk carriers kicked off Thursday at the Yichang Shipbuilding Industrial Park.

An opening ceremony is held for ten 5,000-ton new energy bulk carrier ships at Yichang Shipbuilding Industrial Park.

The Dingxiang Xinneng 1 is set to become the first 5,000-ton new energy bulk carrier in the Yangtze River Basin. Zhijiang Jiangbo Shipbuilding, Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Co., Ltd., and the China State Shipbuilding Corporation 719th Research Institute collaborated on its development.

With dimensions of 105 meters in length, 16.2 meters in width, and 5.3 meters in depth, the vessel will navigate ports along the Yangtze River, from Jingzhou City in Hubei province to Fengjie county in Chongqing.

Equipped with a mobile power supply box boasting a 10,000-kWh storage capacity, the ship will have a range of 200 kilometers per charge.

Construction has already begun on nine additional vessels.

Yichang Shipbuilding Industrial Park now stands as the largest new energy shipbuilding base in the province. Its previous launches include the Three Gorges Hydrogen Ship 1, the first hydrogen-powered vessel, and the Huahang Xinneng 1, the inaugural multi-purpose electric ship.
