On April 17, the Civil Aviation Administration of China formally approved the renaming of Yichang Sanxia Airport to Yichang Sanxia International Airport.
This followed the airport's successful qualification by national authorities to expand its operations to international traffic in July 2023, making Yichang the second airport in Hubei Province to be fully open to international flights.
Following the qualification, the airport promptly applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China to upgrade its designation to "Yichang Sanxia International Airport."
As of now, the airport has launched regular international flights to Bangkok, Thailand, and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Plans are underway to initiate new routes to Singapore, the Philippines, Cambodia, South Korea, Hong Kong, and other destinations.
