The track-laying process for the Wuhan-Yichang section of the new Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway began on April 16. When it is operational in September 2025, the travel time between Wuhan and Yichang will be reduced from nearly two hours to one hour.

On that day, a track-laying tractor laid a pair of 500-meter steel rails on the ballastless track at Jingmen West Railway Station, located in the middle of the Wuhan-Yichang segment. This marked the beginning of track-laying operations for the Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway.

The Wuhan-Yichang section spans 313 kilometers and is a crucial part of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu High-Speed Railway. At its eastern end in Wuhan, the section connects to important railway lines including the Beijing-Guangzhou High-Speed Railway and the Wuchang-Jiujiang High-Speed Railway. At its western end in Yichang, it links with the Zhengzhou-Chongqing High-Speed Railway in Yichang's Xingshan County. In Jingmen City, the section connects to the Hohhot-Nanning High-Speed Railway.

The Wuhan-Yichang section, designed for speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, will greatly decrease travel times. This will enhance the high-quality development of Hubei Province and the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
