Yichang handles Qingming holiday travel rush

Over the three-day Qingming holiday, Yichang’s railway stations handled a total of 201,000 passengers, with Yichang East Railway Station alone accounting for 92,000 of those passengers.
During the holiday from April 4 till 6, railway passengers mainly travel for tomb-sweeping, tourism and visiting friends and family, mostly heading toward Wuhan and the Sichuan-Chongqing region.
Yichang reached the peak flow of departing passengers on April 6. The Yichang Railway Department of China Railway Wuhan Group dispatched 80,000 passengers in 239 passenger trains, an increase of 35 trains from the previous day. Among them, 40,000 passengers left via Yichang East.
During the holiday, Sanxia Airport handled 194 flights, carrying 21,000 passengers. Popular destinations for travelers included major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Chengdu, Sanya and Zhuhai.
Across the country, Chinese people made a total of 119 million trips, 11.5 percent higher than the Qingming holiday in 2019. Domestic tourist spending reached a total of 53.95 billion yuan (US$7.61 billion), which is a 12.7 percent increase from the same period in 2019.
