Recently, ecological photographer Yang He captured an interesting scene of finless porpoise hunting needlefish in the Yichang Section of the Yangtze River.
According to Yang He, recently 5 to 7 finless porpoises can be stably observed in the waters below the Gezhouba Dam in Yichang and groups of needlefish that arrived have become a delicacy for the porpoises.
Researchers from the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences explained that after the fishing ban in the Yangtze River, the number of predators of needlefish has recovered significantly. The Chinese perch, and mandarin fish, including the finless porpoises, are all very fond of this type of fish.
