A freight train carrying canned fruits and vegetables departed from Yichang East Railway Station on March 31. The cargo set for Zhoushan Port in Ningbo City will then be shipped off to Hamad Port, Qatar.
The Yichang-Ningbo Rail-sea Intermodal Transportation system launched in July of last year, greatly improving local logistics. Compared to traditional methods, cargo remains within containers throughout its entire journey — requiring only a single customs clearance and inspection process — thus saving both time and transportation costs.
With this new system, nearly a week’s worth of time will be cut off from that of the previous maritime route. Goods can now reach a port in Qatar in the same time it used to take to ship cargo to Shanghai.
