When Ruan Yang returned from New Zealand to Yichang City, he wanted to fulfill his dream of starting his own business. In October 2020, he established City & Soap, a brand that develops and manufactures handmade soaps. The soaps are made through a cold process, using only natural vegetable oil and other raw materials, containing no artificial chemicals. His business quickly took off.
During a visit to a local industry park for disabled entrepreneurs, Ruan noticed a group of people with various health impairments doing hand-knitting work. The optimism and resilience they showed impressed Ruan, and he decided to invite them to join his company.
With the help of Wujiagang District Disabled Persons' Federation and Wujiaxiang Village Entrepreneurship Park, Ruan’s company has continued to employ workers with disabilities from nearby communities. People with physical, visual, hearing and mental impairments are working in City & Soap’s production, R&D, product display departments and warehouses.
Up to now, City & Soap has created jobs for nearly 50 workers with disabilities, helping them financially and uplifting their confidence.
