Dangyang's water recycling and ecological management project is nearing completion, with a 2,000-meter artificial wetland being built on the Juhe River bank.
"The Yuyang section of the project is currently 92% complete. We are backfilling it with filter material and planting aquatic plants, with full completion expected by the end of May," said Zhou Mi, the project's construction manager, on Tuesday.
Dangyang was chosen as a pilot site for recycled water use in China in October 2022. The project, which received an investment of 630 million yuan (US$87.5 million), includes the construction of two sewage treatment plants, a water supply plant, a recycled water supply network for agricultural irrigation, a new artificial wetland, and the restoration and management of water ecological projects.
Li Hongxing, in charge of the construction site at the Dangyang Municipal Water Resources Bureau, said, "The project is expected to be fully completed in October and undergo a trial operation. This will further improve the water quality in the Juzhang River Basin."
Once finished, the project will supply an estimated 21.9 million cubic meters of recycled water annually. This water can be used for industrial production, municipal purposes, ecological preservation, and agricultural and forestry irrigation. It is projected to contribute an additional GDP of about 4.2 billion yuan to Dangyang.
