On March 5, at the Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC)'s Yichang plant, over 550 robots worked in seamless, swift coordination. Intelligent vehicles shuttled materials through the workshop, while more than 1700 employees controlled critical aspects of the production process. Brand new Empow models continuously rolled off the production line, with capacity entering an accelerated phase.

" Our production has rebounded to approximately 400 vehicles daily,” said Liang Weibiao, deputy general manager of GAC MOTOR Co., Ltd. and general manager of the Yichang branch. “In January and February alone, Yichang plant's production and sales reached 8,000 and 9,000 vehicles, respectively, marking a significant increase compared to the same period in previous years.”

As a global benchmark in intelligent manufacturing, GAC's Yichang plant integrates various production stages through a digital and intelligent equipment chain, with a new car coming off the line as quickly as every 52 seconds. In 2023, GAC's Yichang plant achieved an annual production and sales volume of 106,000 vehicles, with exports increasing by 450% from the previous year to 12,000 vehicles.

Amidst this surge in production and sales, GAC is also strategically advancing into the new energy vehicle sector. Technical upgrades to the NEV production line are already underway.

Liang Weibiao revealed that with the completion of technical upgrades on battery systems, electronic controls, motor technologies, and enhancements to the production lines and logistics, GAC is set to achieve its goal that all new energy vehicle models from GAC Group will be proudly labeled as "Made in Yichang" this year.

According to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, in 2023, China's new energy vehicle exports exceeded 1.2 million units, a year-on-year increase of more than 77%. Both industry trends and market demands have created tremendous opportunities for GAC's Yichang plant.
