More than 800 employees have been working persistently at Hubei Zigui Baili Shoe Industry Co., Ltd. since the Spring Festival holidays ended on February 18 to fulfill the order for 1.75 million pairs of shoes.
The personnel manager Xiang Jinsong said this year’s order is 250,000 pairs more than last year’s. "We are still short more than 100 workers. We have been recruiting to meet the surge of orders.”
The company is a subsidiary of Belle International, which owns women shoe brands like TEENMIX and STACCATO. Zigui Baili is one of Belle's six footwear production plants in China, with the other five in the provinces of Guangdong and Anhui. In 2020, Belle ranked first in the Chinese fashion footwear market with a market share of 11.2 percent, according to Frost & Sullivan.
In 2023, Zigui Baili’s revenue nearly hit 200 million yuan (US$27.79 million).
The company is the largest single employer in Zigui County, with most of its employees coming from neighboring towns and villages.
Tan Xueju from Chenjiaba Village is one of the beneficiaries. "My home is in the neighborhood. I have been working in the factory for more than three years. It's good for me to have a salary of about 4,500 yuan a month while taking care of my family," she said.
