During the eight days of the Spring Festival holiday, more than twice as many people visited Yichang's A-class tourism attractions as a year ago. The revenue reaped at these scenic spots jumped nearly 45 percent year-on-year.
Good weather encouraged visitors to get out and about. Short-distance tours and trips with cultural elements were popular. The public's demand for tourism has shifted from sightseeing to urban leisure and cultural experiences.
During this year’s Spring Festival holidays between February 10 and 17, Yichang launched a number of policies to boost tourism and cultural consumption.
Fourteen key scenic spots issued free tour vouchers. Before the festival, Yichang issued 10 million yuan (US$1.39 million) worth of special consumption vouchers for ice and snow sports.
During the holiday, Yichang continued to distribute a further 4 million yuan of consumption vouchers, with 552 cultural and tourism merchants accepting them.
The Three Gorges Dam Tourism Area has created an “ecotourism” program for visitors. The cruise – which visits the Three Gorges Dam, Gezhouba Dam and the Xiling Gorge and also includes the Yangtze River Night Cruise – has become a hot number in the Yichang tourism market. The Three Visitors’ Cave Scenic Area also launched a Chinese New Year tour.
During the Spring Festival, more than 40 scenic spots, including Guangong Cultural Town, Qingjiang Fangshan Scenic Area and Xiling Gorge Scenic Area, offered visitors free tickets, half-price tickets and lucky draws.
Yichang's 2024 New Year Lantern Festival was also very popular.
The festival includes a series of activities, such as cultural performances, immersive exhibitions, NPC parades, the Spring Flower Festival and the "New Year Sports" event. Visitors were able to enjoy flowers and fitness during the day and lanterns at night. More than 330,000 people visited the lantern festival during the holidays.
In addition, public cultural and sports venues, including the Yichang Museum, Yichang Library, Yichang Art Gallery and Yichang Sports Center, held special exhibitions and performances.
On the outskirts of the city, Yichang’s counties held cultural and tourism activities to show off their unique local folklore.
