Large LED displays roll off the production line

A new advanced LED line using COB technology has gone into mass production at Yichang HKC Technology.
One of China's leading panel manufacturers, HKC has seven production bases in the country, including the one in Yichang.
Chip on board (COB) technology is a method of directly mounting red, green, and blue chips onto a printed circuit board (PCB). Packaging the bare chips directly onto the PCB enables a much higher chip density while creating a flat uniform LED surface.
Compared to older generations of LED display panels, the higher pixel density of COB LED displays means that they can be made into larger 4K, 8K or even 16K screens. They are also more durable and more resistant to damage.
“The chips are packaged inside, where they are protected. These display panels can reach 2k, 4k and 8k resolution with a high contrast ratio and elevated brightness,” said Shen Baiyou, the company's COB display division manager.
COB LED displays can also be used as modular components for bigger-sized screens. Users can assemble the 8-inch size COB displays into a size that meets their needs. Easy to install and disassemble, they are suitable for venues such as schools, shopping malls and conference rooms – where they are destined to replace traditional displays and projectors.
"The modular design allows for expansion, up to 100 inches, 130 inches, 160 inches. They can be adjusted and assembled according to on-site conditions,” Shen said.
Now running at full capacity, the new production line can produce 20,000 COB displays per month.
The launch of this COB display production line fills a gap for large-size panels over 100 inches in Hubei.
At present, Hubei produces around 12 percent of China's small and medium-sized panels, the highest figure for any province.
Dianjun District, which aims to form a complete industrial chain for producing display panels, is expected to become one of China's top three electronic price tag production bases, and its largest display panel production base.
Yichang HKC Technology's annual operating income is expected to reach 3 to 5 billion yuan by 2027.
