Yichang, according to data from the Postal Administration, dispatched a total of 145 million express shipments in 2023 and cumulative revenue from express delivery services reached 1.179 billion yuan (approximately 164.23 million USD).
Apart from personal belongings, the majority of these shipments were driven by e-commerce activities. Yichang's e-commerce sector has experienced significant growth in recent years, propelled by emerging business models such as online retailing and livestreaming sales. Notably, products like Zigui navel oranges and Yichang tangerines received national recognition through the Express Service Agriculture Gold Medal project. Annual delivery volumes for navel oranges and tangerines reached 28 and 23 million pieces, respectively.
Yichang has achieved full coverage of express delivery services to surrounding areas, with 1,319 established villages benefiting from doorstep delivery of agricultural products and other parcels. The city has also developed successful models of collaboration between supply chains, postal services, and express delivery companies, fostering convenience and bolstering the rural economies.
Furthermore, Yichang's initiative to integrate express services into the manufacturing processes has seen notable success. The city's "Express into the Factory" project has reached 41 establishments, facilitating annual shipments of 61.09 million pieces from 75 courier companies in the manufacturing sector. This initiative has not only streamlined logistics but also resulted in approximately 96 million yuan (around 13.37 million USD) in cost savings for manufacturing enterprises.
