A key highway connecting downtown Yichang with the Three Gorges area reopened on January 25 after a major revamp.
The G348 Three Gorges Highway was built in 1970. After 50 years of use, most of its sections no longer met updated secondary highway standards. In 2020, a major renovation project was kicked off.
Popular with both locals and tourists, the 39.6-kilometer road is a scenic corridor, connecting some of Yichang’s core attractions.

There are 99 geology education points along the highway, offering visitors information about the varied landscape. Every point is labeled with a QR code that provides bilingual explanations in Chinese and English.
On January 25, the highway was the venue for the 7th Yiling District Long-Distance Running Event, with over 1200 participants running a 4.5-kilometer stretch.
