Wyndham Hotels & Resorts signed a contract with Yichang City Development Group on Thursday to build the first Wyndham Grand Hotel in Hubei province. Set for construction in Yichang, this will also make it the largest five-star hotel in the city.

The Wyndham Grand Hotel will be built in Yichang International Plaza in the Wujiagang District. With a total construction area of 33,000 square meters, the property will be equipped with a 1,200 square meter multi-functional banquet hall, a full-time buffet restaurant, a health club, and about 300 guest rooms, according to current plans.

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. is an American hotel company based out of Parsippany, New Jersey.

Wang Lei, Chief Development Officer of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Greater China, said: "Yichang has rich tourism resources. It has tourist attractions like the Three Gorges Dam and the Yangtze River. It is also the hometown of famous Chinese historical figures, such as Qu Yuan (c. 340 BC – 278 BC) and Wang Zhaojun (born c. 50 BC). Yichang is a central city along the Yangtze River Economic Belt, which not only has convenient transport, but also a very strong economic foundation."

In addition to the new Wyndham Grand Hotel, last year, Marriott International announced it will build Yichang’s first international five-star hotel.

The 26-floor Sheraton Yichang Hotel, managed by Marriott International, will have 248 rooms.

The hotel is located in the core area of the Yangtze River Three Gorges Cruise Center, which is not only a cruise terminal, but also a yacht club, hotel cluster, commercial complex, leisure area and place for other support facilities. Total investments in the cruise center are estimated at 6 billion yuan (US$826 million), with 2 million people expected to be able to benefit from the facilities each year.
