This marked the first export of vehicles from GAC Motor's Yichang Plant via the China-Europe Express.
Tang Bin, deputy stationmaster of Yichang East Railway Station, noted that before using this route, delivering vehicles took around 40 days. Vehicles were initially sent to Shanghai via the Yangtze River before being exported to European countries. This route, influenced by seasonal conditions on the river, was notably slower. The current journey via the China-Europe Express averages about 10 days, reducing the time by three-quarters.
The China-Europe Railway Express (Chongqing) originates in Chongqing, Southwest China, and concludes its journey in Duisburg, Germany. Launched in March 2011, it is the first China-Europe freight train route.
The railway has established nearly 50 operating routes, linking over 100 cities in Asia and Europe. It facilitates the transportation of over 1,000 types of goods, including whole vehicles, auto parts, medicines, and consumer products.
Soon, 950 commercial vehicles from Yichang will be transported to Europe in batches. The railway department plans to enhance cooperation with local government and enterprises, supporting specialized train services for automobile transportation.
Since the inauguration of Yichang's first international freight train in 2017, the Yichang-Vietnam and Yichang-Laos trains have been established, offering additional avenues for Yichang's goods. These routes have facilitated the export of various products from Yichang and the surrounding area, including chemical, medical, and agricultural products, to Belt and Road countries.
