During the 2024 Spring Festival travel rush, Yichang Three Gorges Airport will increase its capacity for flights headed to Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hangzhou. Five to six flights per day will be added for Yichang to Shenzhen and four flights per day for Yichang to Guangzhou. It is expected to handle over 340,000 passengers in the 40 days of the Spring Festival travel rush, from January 26 to March 5.

The airport has currently added three daily round-trip flights between Shenzhen and Yichang, three flights between Guangzhou and Yichang, and one flight between Hangzhou and Yichang to respond to the rush. Later, it plans to increase additional flights to Shanghai and other destinations.

This year's Spring Festival falls on February 10. The holiday will last from February 10 to 17, longer than that of previous years. Due to this, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), expects people will have a stronger desire to enjoy leisure travel in addition to visiting relatives.

Based on current air ticket sales from the Three Gorges Airport, popular holiday destinations include Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Harbin, Xiamen, Zhuhai, Chengdu and southern tourist cities like Sanya and Haikou. In addition, there are more travelers to destinations in northeast China and the northwest Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region enjoying ice and snow tourism.
