Yichang ski season gets underway

When you think of cities in China known for snow and ice, Yichang in Hubei province is not likely to be one of the first names to pop into your head. But the skiing here is great! Yichang has five resorts, more than any other Hubei city. Winter tourism in Yichang has boomed in recent years. Wufeng International Ski Resort and Bailihuang Ski Resort received 205,000 tourists in 2022, taking in 23 million yuan (US$3.2 million) in revenue.

Wufeng International Ski Resort

Wufeng International Ski Resort is Yichang’s alpine ski field. Covering an area of 40,000 square meters, it features a 2,000-meter peak, three ski slopes and a large play area.

Yunxigu International Ski Resort

Yunxigu has 2 kilometers of ski runs: five slopes plus an advanced slope with a gondola lift. The maximum vertical drop is 110 meters.

Zhaojun International Ski Resort

Zhaojun is the largest ski resort in central China. It has 12 national standard slopes and two extra-long slopes for snow tube skiing.

Bailihuang Ski Resort

Opened in 2016, Bailihuang was Yichang’s first ski resort. It has a green slope, a more difficult blue slope and a beginner slope for those who just want to have a taste.

Qu Yuan International Ski Resort

Qu Yuan is a brand-new ski area that opened this year. It has two green runs, one blue run and a snow play area. It can accommodate a total of 2,800 people skiing at the same time.
