Accompanied by powerful drums and soaring melodies, the Yichang Peking Opera Troupe amazed the Guoyun Grand Theater audience with performances of "Gai Rong Zhan Fu" and "You Long Xi Feng.”
"Gai Rong Zhan Fu,” meaning "she disguises to fight her father," tells the legendary story of a heroic woman, Wan Xiangyou. The Peking Opera was performed by Song Dezu, one of the renowned Four Small Famous Actresses.
"You Long Xi Feng," or "The Playful Dragon and Phoenix," is a traditional piece that depicts a love story between the incognito Zhengde Emperor of the Ming Dynasty and a woman named "Li Fengjie."
The performance earned warm applause from the audience.
"I was completely engrossed in the act. The room was cheering, and I found myself clapping intensely along," remarked an audience member.
Since June, the Yichang Peking Opera Troupe has focused on providing high-quality shows for the local crowds. Monthly Peking Opera performances at the Guoyun Grand Theater are complemented by other acts such as stand-up comedy and crosstalk shows.
