Yichang Sanxia Airport has launched its first all-cargo air service, linking Yichang with Zhengzhou in Henan province.

A Boeing 737-800 freighter landed at Yichang Sanxia Airport at 10:02 pm on December 8, marking the start of the airport's first all-cargo route since opening. The opening is a major milestone for the fast logistics channels in the Three Gorges region.

The cargo transported on the service's first inbound flight consisted mainly of foodstuffs, chemical products, daily necessities and auto parts. After loading and unloading cargo at the airport, the flight departed for Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport, carrying foodstuffs, express cargo and export goods.

Xu Zuoqiang, general manager of Yichang Sanxia Airport, mentioned that the airport has plans to invest more in the launch of new domestic and international all-cargo routes.

The first cargo route is scheduled to operate one flight every day with a maximum capacity of 20 tonnes each way. It is expected to bring 10,000 tonnes of cargo throughput to the airport annually.

Yichang Sanxia Airport is the largest air distribution center in the Three Gorges region.

The launch will alleviate the problem of passenger aircrafts having insufficient cargo capacity. Yichang’s specialty agricultural and sideline products, pharmaceutical products and manufacturing products will also be transported through this air logistics channel via Zhengzhou’s more advanced domestic and international connections.

The airport's newly launched air cargo service will also attract goods from neighboring cities, including Jingzhou, Jingmen and Enshi, further solidifying Yichang as a primary logistics hub.

The new developments are also expected to further promote and support Yichang's foreign trade growth and bolster the development of the city's economy.
