Three Gorges Dam breaks visitor record

On 24 November, the Three Gorges Dam passed the bar of 3.2 million tourists in 2023, beating the record of previous years.

Over several weekends this summer, the Three Gorges Dam racked up more than 10,000 daily visitors. The team of guides, who spice up the history of the Three Gorges Project with stories and anecdotes, make a tour of the dam a cultural experience.
Activities such as hydropower engineering exhibitions and dance flash mobs added to the visitor experience in 2023.
The dam plays a key role in flood control and electricity generation in the Yangtze River basin. Generating electricity since 2003, the dam opened to the public in 2005.
