The battery production line for new-energy-powered ships that whirred into life at Zigui Fanba Logistics Park on November 18 represents a milestone for Yichang’s smart, green shipbuilding industry.
The park will produce batteries generating 100,000 kWh of power each year.
The production line is a joint initiative between Yichang Chengfa Group, the Zigui County government, and the 712th Research Institute of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation. It began operations just eight months after the tripartite agreement was signed in March.
The 50-meter production line has 19 automated robots capable of handling 80 percent of the manufacturing processes. This automation enhances efficiency and also ensures precision and quality in production.
Adopting core technologies such as the thermal runaway blocking system developed by the 712th Research Institute, the battery packs produced are said to be both efficient and secure – they do not catch fire or explode in cases of overcharging, short circuits or external combustion.
The Yangtze River Three Gorges No.1 Ship, which was put into service last year, is powered by these new battery packs, as are vessels currently under construction in Zigui.
This production line will give a boost to Yichang's electric shipbuilding.
