Yichang exported over 20 tonnes of its famously juicy oranges on November 12 using a special customs regulation called the “1039 mode” which simplifies customs clearance procedures for small shipments.
The export price of the citrus was nearly 6 yuan per kilogram.
In July 2014, China’s General Administration of Customs brought in a new "Market Purchase Trade Mode" with the code "1039". Shipments and localities that qualify for the “1039 mode” are exempt from tax on exports of commodities under $150,000 and benefit from much quicker customs clearance procedures.
Yichang Three Gorges International Trade is one of 39 pilot enterprises in China authorized to use the 1039 mode.
This preferential policy has enabled the company to build a low-cost, highly efficient export channel for citrus fruit.
Yichang is one of the largest orange-producing areas in China. This year's citrus production in Yichang is 40 percent higher than the previous year.
