At the production line of Yichang City Development Group's Vehicle Dismantling Company, discarded vehicles are undergoing multiple processing steps before being broken down into separate parts.
Last year, the company achieved a production value of 50 million yuan by recycling 20,000 tonnes of scrap steel and 1,400 tonnes of non-ferrous metals.
With the economic development, vehicle reserves are seeing a rise in Yichang. Vehicle recycling has become a major social concern.
In 2019, the Chinese government implemented the "Management Measures for the Recycling of Junk Vehicles," which encourages the five major components of a motor vehicle-engine, steering system, transmission, axles and chassis, or frame to be remanufactured, thereby increasing the salvage value of vehicles.
Data shows that by 2030, the number of end-of-life vehicles in China will exceed 28 million, and the corresponding amount of renewable resources will reach 70 million tonnes.
With a vehicle population of approximately 1.5 million, Yichang City has worked to accelerate the development of a circular industrial chain for the recycling and dismantling of discarded vehicles.
