On the evening of October 28, with a blast of its horn, the Century Oasis cruise ship – with more than 300 Thai tourists aboard – steered out from its berth at Chaotianmen Port in Chongqing, and set off down the Yangtze River to Yichang.

A 5-star vessel managed by Century Cruises, the Century Oasis will arrive at the Three Gorges Visitor Center in Yichang on November 1.

The tourism industry took a heavy blow during the pandemic. Even though restrictions were relaxed almost a year ago, this is the first chartered Three Gorges cruise tour this year for tourists from Thailand.

However, with the global tourism market picking up steam, the number of tours to Yangtze River Three Gorges is increasing. From January to September this year, a total of 3,973 Yangtze River Three Gorges cruise journeys were made, and a total of 1,028,400 passengers carried, according to the Chongqing Municipal Shipping Exchange.

Li Wenguang, deputy general manager of Century Cruises, said that the Chongqing-Yichang and Chongqing-Shanghai cruises are two of its most popular products.

One of the most famous attractions on the Chongqing-Yichang route, the Three Gorges Dam Tourist Area welcomed a group of over 100 foreign tourists a few weeks ago, including many Chinese Americans and Europeans.
