Key tunnel completed three months ahead of schedule

A key tunnel along a new railway linking Yichang’s downtown with the national-level high-speed railway was completed on October 26, three months ahead of schedule.
The Laolingang Tunnel, an important part of the Yichang-Xingshan Railway, is the first tunnel on the line to be completely built using intelligent equipment, which includes special robots for concrete quality inspection and spraying maintenance carts. These machines, as well as the intelligent control center which can fully monitor and control the progress and quality of construction, contributed to the shortened construction period.
The single-hole, two-lane tunnel is located in Caijiahe Village, Yiling District, with a length of 4,555.25 meters and a designed speed of 350 kilometers per hour. It is part of the 109-kilometer-long Yichang-Xingshan Railway that links Yichang’s downtown area with Xingshan County connecting it to the Zhengzhou-Chongqing High-speed Railway.
The tunnel passes through a carbonate rock area with complex geological conditions. Next step, workers will begin to lay ballastless tracks, which is an advanced technology in the railway building industry.
