Yichang's auto production posts steady growth

Yichang's auto production capacity has been steadily improving. In the first three quarters of this year, GAC Motor's Yichang plant produced 75,000 vehicles, up 60 percent year-on-year, with an output value of 6.9 billion yuan, an increase of 55 percent year-on-year.
The plant is now producing more than 300 units of the GS3 SUV per day to meet market demand.
The GS3 SUV is a new model that was launched in March. In the first three quarters of this year, sales of this model exceeded 40,000 units, placing it among the top performers in the small SUV sales rankings.
"It is a popular small-size SUV with intelligence, excellent performance and low fuel consumption, so sales have increased dramatically," said Ye Shaojian, deputy general manager of GAC Motor's Yichang branch.
Because of the best-selling model, the plant's production in August exceeded 12,000 units in a single month, a record high.
Not only has the plant had a strong demand in the domestic market, but the demand from foreign markets is also soaring. Made-in-Yichang cars are now sold to parts of Southeast Asia, the Middle East, North America and South America.
GAC Motor's Yichang Plant is in the automobile industrial park area of Xiaoting District, Yichang City. It is planned to serve as a "smart manufacturing" benchmark factory. It provides a strong foundation for the plant's steady increase in production capacity.
"This year, the production volume of the Yichang plant is expected to exceed 100,000 units. It will also be a new record," said Ye Shaojian.
Now, there are nearly 20 auto parts companies, led by GAC Motor’s Yichang plant, gathered in Xiaoting District. The district is currently seizing opportunities to attract investment and strengthen the industrial chain.
