As the citrus fruit golden season kicked off in mid-October, the National Modern Agriculture Industrial Park in Yiling District, Yichang City launched its Intelligent Citrus Sorting production line.
The production line boasts an hourly output capacity of up to 30 tons. It employs automatic identification technology to assess a variety of key fruit indicators such as skin coloration, fruit diameter, sugar content, skin blemishes, and pulp damage. This enables precise sorting and classification of the produce.
Apart from its intelligent sorting capabilities, the industrial park offers processing and packaging facilities, e-commerce operations and cold chain logistics – effectively covering all aspects of the citrus industry chain.
Yiling District in Yichang City is known as “the hometown of early maturing citrus in China”. The district now cultivates more than 320,000 mu (21,300 hectares) of citrus, generating an annual output value of 10.8 billion yuan (1.4 billion US$). Its citrus products are exported to more than ten countries and regions including Russia, Canada, and Kazakhstan.
This year's total yield of citrus in Yiling District is expected to reach 830,000 tons. Pre-orders have already been signed for 246,000 tons.
