MD Arif, a Bangladeshi graduate from China Three Gorges University in Yichang, has become one of the first operators of Bangladesh's first large-scale centralized wind power plant.
The Cox's Bazar wind power project is part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Arif completed his Electrical Engineering degree in 2021. Following a six-month internship at China's Yaoposhan Wind Power Plant, he joined the Cox's Bazar wind power plant team.
The project – Bangladesh's first large-scale wind power plant in the southeastern Cox's Bazar district, approximately 400 km from Dhaka – is funded by Wuling Power Corp. and was built by PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corp. It is projected to generate 145 million kWh of clean electricity annually, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 109,200 metric tons.
The recently opened Cox's Bazar wind power project stands as an achievement of the Belt and Road Initiative, launched in March 2013 by President Xi Jinping.
On October 12, the project's inauguration ceremony was held simultaneously in Beijing and Dhaka, capital of Bangladesh.
