The 2023 China (Yichang) Green Energy Development Conference kicked off yesterday.
The opening ceremony saw the signing of agreements for 32 new energy projects, reflecting a substantial commitment to the sector. These projects boast collective investments totaling 123.57 billion yuan (equivalent to US$16.93 billion). Notably, six projects are at an impressive scale of 10 billion yuan, while thirteen other projects are at the 5 billion yuan level. This significant investment underscores the strong push toward advancing and diversifying the new energy landscape.
Over two days, the conference welcomed over 1200 guests, including officials, experts, and multinational company representatives. The primary focus was on driving green energy development and contributing to China's "dual carbon" goals.
During the opening ceremony, the Yichang City government, China Energy Research Society, and China Three Gorges Corp unveiled a license for the joint construction of the "Capital of Clean Energy." This recognition applauds Yichang's dedicated efforts in clean energy development over the recent years.
Yichang now stands at the forefront of clean energy development in China in both quantity and potential. With 468 hydropower stations, including the monumental Three Gorges Project, the city contributes 7% of the nation's installed hydropower capacity and 10% of green hydropower. All this is achieved while covering only 0.2% of the country's land area.
Before the ceremony, China’s inaugural launching of a hydrogen-powered ship, the “Three Gorges Hydrogen Ship 1,” took place along the main channel of the Yangtze River.
