China's first hydrogen-fueled vessel "Three Gorges Hydrogen Ship 1" was launched in Yichang this morning, featuring high environmental friendliness and comfort with low energy consumption and noise.

Changjiang SanXia 1, the world’s largest all-electric cruise ship, has been in service since March 29, 2022 and emitted 700 tons less of CO₂ compared to traditional vessels from the previous year.

The 2023 China (Yichang) Green Energy Development Conference opened today in Yichang, bringing new opportunities for its construction of a “clean energy city” and celebrating the cooperation between the city and China Three Gorges Corporation(CTGC), a leading clean energy group in China.

Committing to developing green energy industries is a common goal of the city and group based on the abundance of resources and advancements in technology.

In recent years, Yichang city and CTGC are collaborating to push forward the development of green and clean energy industries, including “wind-solar-water-storage-hydrogen” production systems and “source-network-load-storage” integrated operations.

Yichang boasts a leading position in terms of the amount and potential of clean energy development throughout China. The city has 468 hydropower stations, including the Three Gorges Project, contributing 7% of the country's installed hydropower capacity and 10% of green hydropower, although the city covers only 0.2% of national land area.

Yichang also has 16.7% of the country's phosphate deposits, and the country's third largest graphite reserves, both being important resources for new energy battery production.  The city has abundant pumped storage resources and green energy resources such as wind power, photovoltaic power generation, shale gas reserves and chemical by-product hydrogen.

As the world's largest hydropower development and operation enterprise, CTGC is building the world's largest clean energy corridor along the Yangtze River.

Yichang and CTGC introduced the plan for jointly building a model city for the Great protection of the Yangtze River, an in-depth cooperation in seven areas, including co-building the green energy economy and realizing industrial transformation and upgrading.

The two sides are expanding the application scenarios of clean energy. They have achieved full coverage of shore electricity at ports in the Yichang basin of the Yangtze River, and accelerated the replacement and renewal of electric power for government vessels, tourist vehicles, mining vehicles and port operation vessels.

Yichang also sees the building of the largest zero-carbon data center cluster in Central China. Three Gorges Dongyuemiao Data Center, whose first phase began operations in September 2022, is located on the right bank of the Three Gorges Dam area, Yichang City. Thanks to its location advantage, the center is 100% powered by Three Gorges green hydropower.

According to data released by the National Energy Administration, China's renewable energy installed capacity reached over 1300 GW by the end of this past June, exceeding its coal power. Its wind power has ranked first in the world for 13 consecutive years and photovoltaic power has ranked first in the world for eight consecutive years.
