Thirty-six investment projects were signed at the first Yichang Chushang Conference yesterday, with a total contracted investment of 60.68 billion yuan (US$8.33 billion).

Most of the projects relate to major Yichang City industries, such as chemicals, culture and tourism, big data and cloud-computing.

More than 200 domestic and foreign experts, scholars and businessmen, mainly from Hubei province, attended the event.

“Chushang” is the Chinese abbreviation of “Hubei businessmen”. Hubei was part of the ancient Chu State (c. 1030 – 223 BC), while “shang” is an abbreviation for “businessman”.

The event saw the launch of the Yichang Chushang Federation and the announcement of the Top 10 Outstanding Hubei Businessmen.

The Upper and Middle Yangtze River Cities Chamber of Commerce Alliance was also launched. Its members come from the seven eastern districts of Chongqing municipality, two districts from the west of Hunan province, and four from Hubei province.
