Selenium-rich tea embarks on global journey via Yichang-Ningbo Rail-sea Intermodal Transportation

56,000 kilograms of Enshi's renowned selenium-rich tea embarked on a journey from Yichang East Railway Station at 9:02 a.m. on September 12. Utilizing rail-sea intermodal transportation, the tea will be transported to Beilun port in Ningbo City before being shipped to Casablanca in Africa.
This marks the first time that Enshi's selenium-rich tea has taken advantage of the Yichang-Ningbo Rail-sea Intermodal Transportation Route. Hailing from the Enshi, the Selenium Capital of the World, this tea is celebrated for its exceptional quality and affordable price. In fact, in 2022 alone, Enshi's selenium-rich tea industry generated an impressive output value of 22 billion.
The Yichang-Ningbo Rail-sea Intermodal Transportation was launched back in July as an alternative means of transport. Compared to traditional methods, this mode is advantageous in that the cargo remains within containers throughout its entire journey—requiring only one clearance and inspection process—thus saving both time and transportation costs.
To illustrate this efficiency boost further, consider that under conventional circumstances it would take around two weeks for the selenium-rich tea to reach the destination; however, with rail-sea intermodal transportation now available, it will arrive at Beilun Port in Ningbo City within just two days.
Till now, approximately 2,444 tons of cargo in 188 standard containers - mainly teas, canned food, car parts, and chemical products originating from Three Gorges Area - have been transported by three Yichang-Ningbo Rail-sea Intermodal trains, to over twenty countries and regions in South Asia, the Middle East and America.
On September 14th another rail-sea intermodal train consisting of fifty compartments will commence its journey from Yichang East Railway Station.
This innovative rail-sea intermodal transportation has revolutionized the efficiency of exporting enterprises. As more local exporters opt for this means of transportation, an increasing number of high-quality products from Yichang and its surrounding areas will find their way into global markets with the invaluable assistance of rail-sea intermodal transportation.
