4 mega granaries in Yichang for Sinograin
Central Grain Reserve Yichang Direct Warehouse celebrated a significant milestone on August 26 with the completion of four granaries which will become part of the Sinograin Yichang Project.
Situated in Baiyang Industrial Park within Yichang Hi-tech Industry Development Zone, the 2.48 billion yuan (US$ 340 million) project spans an area of 418 mu (28 hectares). Its 1.1 million ton storage capacity can sustain approximately 5.5 million people for one year, assuming an average annual grain consumption of 200 kilograms per person.
The newly completed No.10 to No.14 granaries are part of the 150,000-ton phase 1 of Sinograin Yichang Project. The project will play a crucial role in ensuring the secure storage of about 40,000 tons of autumn grain during the upcoming harvest season.
Hubei Province, a major agricultural province and vital production and supply base, has a rich agricultural history. An idiom in use since the Ming and Qing dynasties states that “a harvest in Huguang (in the Qing dynasty Huguang included modern Hubei and Hunan) guarantees ample food for the entire nation".
In 2022, Yichang City in Hubei Province had a grain production area of more than 4.8 million mu (320,000 hectares), and a total grain output of more than 1.5 million tons.
"Yichang is an important strategic location and logistics hub, with a good business environment. Sinograin is confident about investing in Yichang and contributing to Yichang's development," said Deng Yiwu, Chairman of Sinograin.
Upon completion, the Sinograin Yichang Project will have an annual output value of 10 billion yuan in grain and oil processing and provide employment for approximately 2,000 people. It is expected to become the largest grain distribution center and imported grain storage and distribution base in the area between Hubei and Chongqing.
