Yichang’s first batch of lithium titanium oxide (LTO) batteries rolled off the production line yesterday in Xiaoting district.

The advantages of LTO batteries are good temperature resistance, safety, stability, a long life cycle and fast charging.

Yichang Hualin’s new product can be fully charged in just six minutes and recharged up to 30,000 times. Hualin’s product – particularly suitable for NEV trucks and buses, automated guided vehicles and outdoor energy storage facilities – works in temperatures ranging from minus 50°C to 65°C.

However, the low energy density and high cost of LTO batteries means that the general market for automotive batteries is still dominated by lithium iron phosphate and ternary lithium types.

According to reports, the Yichang Hualin LTO battery has racked up pre-orders worth 100 million yuan (US$13.72 million). With a total investment of 1.5 billion yuan, the company’s LTO battery production base project is expected to achieve an annual output value of 4.5 billion yuan when it reaches full production.

In 2022, China's LTO battery market was valued at 550 million yuan. The first company in China to produce LTO batteries on a large scale was Gree Titanium New Energy; now Yichang Hualin is nipping at its heels.
