At 2:15 a.m. on August 22, two rail swing bridges - Yichang Chengdong Bridge Pier 9 and Pier 10 - completed rotation and docking, marking a further step in the construction of the line connecting Yichang to the Zhengwan railway that runs between Zhengzhou and Chongqing.
The continuous girder has a total length of 158 meters with a single T-girder of 74 meters. It weighs about 5,000 tons and has a curve radius of 400 meters.
The 818-kilometer Zhengwan railway, designed for a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour, links Zhengzhou, capital of central China's Henan Province, and Wanzhou District of southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
There will be 109 kilometers of track between Yichang East Station and the Xingshan section of the Zhengwan high-speed railway. Construction of this segment, which is costing 17.25 billion yuan (US$2.37 billion), began in August 2020 and is scheduled to finish in August 2025.
On completion, travel time from Yichang to Chongqing will be cut to less than 2 hours.
As of end July, almost 9 billion yuan (US$1.23 billion) has been invested.
