On August 16, a bustling scene unfolded at Yichang Xinhui Ship Repair Co., Ltd., located in the Yichang Shipbuilding Industrial Zone.
So far this year, the nine shipbuilding companies in Yichang’s Shipbuilding Industrial Zone have built a total of 101 vessels (including 67 currently under construction), a year-on-year increase of 32 percent.
Among them, 27 are new energy vessels (19 hybrid, eight pure electric), accounting for 27 percent of the total.
It is estimated that a total of 38 new energy vessels will be built this year, including fourteen that will be pure electric.
Qin Qisheng, chairman of Xinhui Company, had just bid farewell to a group of clients. He told reporters, "Our orders are booked till next August. We have not only domestic orders but also overseas."
The company has signed a shipbuilding agreement with a company in Indonesia this year. "If the project runs smoothly, we will take on orders for more than 20 vessels in Indonesia," Qin said.
Fifteen ships are under construction at Yichang Xinhui Ship Repair, four of which are LNG-powered vessels. The company will build two pure electric-powered ships in the second half of this year.
It is estimated that new energy vessels will account for more than 30 percent of the company's shipbuilding volume for the year, according to Qin.
The Zhijiang government encourages shipbuilding firms to cooperate with high-level electric ship research institutes. Yichang Xinhui Ship Repair recently signed an agreement with the No. 712 Ship Research Institute to jointly establish a new energy yacht building base.
