Construction was officially commenced on Dangyang West Railway Station this Tuesday. The station is part of the Wuhan-Yichang section of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railroad, which runs from east to west along the Yangtze River.
Located on Yuquan Street in Dangyang, the new station is 4km from the city center. It is designed with a maximum capacity of 600 people and is expected to handle a peak hourly passenger flow of 642 individuals.
The railway between Wuhan and Yichang, part of the Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railroad, spans a distance of 313 kilometers, and has a designed operating speed of 350 kilometers per hour.
Once completed, the project will significantly reduce the temporal distance between Dayang and other cities, promoting development of the local economy.
The Shanghai-Chongqing-Chengdu high-speed railway serves as a vital transportation backbone of the Yangtze River Basin. Stretching over 2,100 kilometers, it passes through six provinces and cities, including Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hubei, Chongqing and Sichuan. The railway will be constructed in seven sections, significantly reducing travel time from Shanghai to Chengdu from an average of 13 hours to just 6 hours.
With a total investment of 52.27 billion yuan (US$7.1billion), the Wuyi section is estimated to be completed within a four-year timeframe. Since construction began on September 25, 2021, more than 80% of the roadbed filling and about 70% of the tunnel construction has been completed.
